For Kids.

I’m adding this page to make it easier for me to share tips and resources to siblings and curious kids, like the McAdoo’s who have shares resources and expressed curiosity for more.

In their search for information, the McAdoo’s came across this page, and suggested that I share it with others:

I learned more from reading the books written by these guys than I did from listening to adults.  One book was written by a 10 year old, another written by a 14 year old.  I’m including Amazon links, but these books can often be found at local stores as well!

I also learned a lot from IDO IN AUTISMLAND, which taught me that weaknesses in verbal skills or language do not mean a person is not smart.

AND, all of this information helps many of us understand ourselves better, whether we fit the diagnosis or not!  We all have sensory issues and we all have “characteristics” of autism to one degree or another.  The Book, Arnie and His School Tools, is an awesome explanation of how using tools that work is a great idea for all people.  After understanding this, the use of different strategies starts to be more natural, and be less distracting to others.

And, these books, by Carol Kranowitz, are awesome resources for any kid, teacher, parent, aunt, uncle, or fun grandparent.  They bring back the idea of cheap and easy play that enriches sensory experiences and body skills.  Her books are jam packed with fun ideas!

And there are also some great YouTube videos that are very user friendly.  Regardless of labels, I think these two videos are great in supporting a greater understanding of sensory issues.

Also, if any of you know a person who is good at drawing/illustrating, I would love to write a kids book, but can not draw, so let me know!

And, if any of you come across good resources to share with kids and families, please let me know so I can share them here.

Thanks to the McAdoo family for inspiring this page!!!
